Red Book is an excellent game for 12 year olds as it provides simple, direct fun, that takes a short period of time to learn. It is a great "gate way" game, and good to play unless you find its limitations constricting.
That's what I mean, if you're going to bargain bin it... *don't*, addict a twelve year old to RPG instead.
