>>14775387In high school I had to do 2 book reports at once. The teachers used the same list so I could have done the same book twice if I wanted to, but I did two instead. 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. Those two weeks really sucked.
I finished the report on Fahrenheit 451 and simply hated the government, but 1984 was rough. I eventually told that teacher what I'd attempted. He took pity on me and gave me a week extension to try and recover from 1984 depression.
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance took place with a father, son and two friends on a cross-country road trip through beautiful scenery. The father, however, was going insane and there were some dark periods where he couldn't remember psychotic episodes and conversations he'd had while his other personality took over and he desperately clawed to keep from becoming buried in his own mind. The roads and wilderness they were going through would take on skewed aspects and become increasingly dangerous during these periods. I don't think it was grim-dark as such, but definitely dark and twisted.
