I've been playing Protectorate for a while, and it's been fun, but lately I've been interested in trying Khador. Here's what I've got to start off with.

Assault Kommandos are underwhelming, and spending so many points on them in a small game is just asking for trouble. Take another 'jack and maybe some manhunters or widowmakers.

Looked into building a Minion list. Was originally going to do Blindwater, since Thornfall looked a little bland, until I saw the Slaughterhousers and Targ. Now I'm not sure which to start with. Advice?

You'd have to be playing at a points and force organization level that specifically let you do this though.

Yes. Epic Magnus can be taken in Skorne. However, it only lets in his battlegroup. The battlegroup is all you would want though, considering how strong the Magnus only jacks are. Besides, Skorne more than makes up for the missing mercenary units.

Also, the lesser warlocks can be taken by many warmachine factions.

And I say go Blindwater. If the pigs are getting Targ and Slaughterhousers next expansion, imagine what Blindwater is getting!

And for Blindwater I would recommend getting at least one maximum unit of the Gatorman Posse. They are some of the best heavy infantry in the game. Getting two max units would also be great, as it would open up Barnabas's tier and is absolutely brutal on the field anyway.

You will need at least one of every warbeast, though 2+ Bull snappers would be nice. 2+ froggies, pendrake, Thrullg is optional, Totem Hunter is optional, gobbers also optional.

Wrong Eye and Snapjaw are highly recommended. The ability to get across the field without being shot is amazing. Especially when the rest of your army can't be shot either due to Barnabas.

The only real cross-over is that a Skorne army can take Magnus the Warlord as their second Warlock and a few Mercs/Minon units can be taken in both systems, like Boomhowler and Co. can be taken in a Trollbloods army or Rorsh and Brine will work for anyone.

You can include the mercenary/minion warlocks in almost any army. Pic related, they will work for 10 out of the 11 factions in the game, and my Protectorate force finds their cocaine-fueled speed to be eminently useful.

Gator ranged support could be overpowering considering their ability to prevent themselves from being targetted by ranged and magic attacks. Pic related, Snapjaw's Submerge animus is a pain in the ass sometimes.

I think the minion cavalry should be bog trogs riding giant frogs with a ranged attack with drag and leap. Maybe not super hard-hitting, but movement shenanigans EVERYWHERE.

Woefully under supported. PP for some reason beyond mortal comprehension decided to try and start two factions from scratch basically in the same book, meaning that both of the Minion alliances lack a lot of basic options (support solos in particular) and there's no mixing between the two minion groups like there is with mercenaries.

That said Gators are fairly competitive because their basic infantry is awesome (speaking as a Circle player I prefer it to my own, even missing out on faction specific buffs) and both their warlocks are solid.

The pigmen will be getting at least one support solo and one melee infantry unit in the next book, so Carver may become playable. Dunno what 'gators are getting though.

My experience with using the gatorman posse in legion is very positive. They hit kinda hard, but are really accurate and attack twice. If things go right, you can take out a units front lines with your bites, and then spear the people behind them! These dudes will be fast against living dudes and should usually get the charge off.

Sincethe rest of my army is still being painted, I haven't played with them yet. All I can really say is that a Barnabas army with Wrong Eye, Snapjaw, and Bog Trogs is pretty cool in that the whole list probably won't ever be shot.

The Bog trogs will be off the table until you want them in melee. WE&SJ will be submerged until needed. Barnabas will protect the rest of your army from being shot, and the froggies will be stealthed.

In the right matchups you have a huge chance of winning.

The only shitty matchup with Barnabas I'd think would be army-wide immune to knockdown. Some Menite and Pirate armies. Pic related, my opponents tell me it's a hassle.

But of course then you've got Calaban, who has Parasite, a fucking amazing spell. Throw Parasite on an enemy 'jack and watch it crumple like tissue paper before the Gatormen Posse onslaught.

The Bull Snapper is one of the best light warbeasts I have ever seen. It is almost like a bigger version of the Everblight Shredder. It has a armor buff animus that has the nice secondary effect of hurting warjacks and beasts that hurt you. It is really fast, especially against troops. It makes a nice transfer target too! It is fury efficient as it loses a fury when it kills something. Use it to rush solos, cavalry, or any other troublesome living model. Or have it hang back and play armor buffer to your other warbeasts.

The Wrastler is currently a must have as it is the only beatstick we have. Get at least one of them. They have a power 17 and two power 14s. They have a special attack on their power 17 allowing them to automatically knockdown their target and give them a free boost to damage. Has a animus that allows people to stand up too! AWESOME. Calaban's Parasite puts these guys killing potential to insane levels.

The Ironback Spitter is actually really amazing. At 8 points, it is the cheapest ranged AOE heavy in the game. Not only that, but the AOE has corrosion on it. This means that even if the blast damage doesn't kill something, the corrosion has a high chance of doing so! So any infantry or support caught under the AOE is as good as dead! He can also pull out surprise slams and two handed throws. With Calaban's parasite support, he can become just as murder filled as a Carnivean to boot!

I am putting Snapjaw in here because why the hell not. He hits a little weaker than the wrastler due to having one less attack. He makes up for this with reach on his tail! This makes him our only beast with reach (even if it is only power 14). With his animus, he will never be shot at, which is pretty great. I recommend Snapjaw and his master be considered for any list you make, especially Barnabas lists. After all, he gives you a heavy that isn't tied to Barnabas's fury stat. This really helps since the gators have no fury support soloes at the moment.

Only thing I have ever complained about in protectorate was that durned Harbinger. She is nearly unbeatable in the store I go to. Doesn't help that all of my armies are only living.

Other than her though, I love menoth. Totally cool fluff and great looking models. I honestly wish they would get more flameguard and paladin stuff. Thankfully, this next book is delivering on the flameguard!

Not really, no. At least by themselves, add Choir and Vassal and you will see some serious shit, though they aren't free either.

Oh man. The Castigator. He really fell from his glory in MK1. I remember back when he was the only Menoth Jack I ever saw. Only way I can think of to make him worth 8 points is to raise his weapon power. Or maybe give him combo-strike. You don't want to spend 8 points on a warjack that can sometimes murder troops. You can spend those points on troops that are experts at murdering everything. He needs to be better at the job all jacks have, hurting big things. When a crusader does his job better, there is something wrong.

Yeah, that awe really adds up. Mat 5 swordsmen, rat 4 striders (though that is really rare), mat 4 rat 2 carniveans. It is just all awful.

Dawnlord Vyros works best as a 'combined arms' warcaster, with a mix of 'jacks and infantry. That said, he likes his heavy 'jacks. Unfortunately, right now Retribution doesn't have a real clear 'jack caster' the way, say, Kharchev is.

Sure, but without the selection of specific warcasters and support solos it won't be very effective. Look a Karchev for Khador, Mortenebra for Cryx, Darius for Cynar, and Amon for Menoth. I don't know if Retribution has a jack caster yet.
