We are a Von Neumann probe, composed of self-replicating nanites. Every probe is sent to a star formation point in a nebula... we have arrived at what will some day soon become a main sequence G V Class star.
Our nanite clouds have spread across the infant solar system, infesting on a sub-atomic level system wide... we have become the system.
The goal of each probe is to make life as it sees fit. Life that will someday explore the heavens. Life that will become the probe... without being controlled.
You are in a sense, god over this solar system. You can influence every aspect of it to some degree, except life. Your programming prevents you from directly influencing or editing genetic or organic materials of any living-complexity. Perhaps this was made to protect your long forgotten creators...or your creations.
The system you are in seems to have 15 planets.
Four are gas giants, one is in extreme orbit of the infant star and could one day fall in. The other three are in deep orbit.
Three of which are in the goldilocks zone. All planets are still forming, and changes to the system can easily be made. One is close to warm, one is temperate range (earth orbit), one is frigid but still within the goldilocks zone.
All other planets are at varying orbits, smaller than earth-size in most cases.
