So my DnD 3.5 group is getting bored with 3.5, it's too slow and some of the rules are just plain stupid. We are thinking of switching to Pathfinder.

How does Pathfinder compare to 3.5, and I know Pathfinder is based off 3.5 too.

And if we don't like the sound of Pathfinder we will be switching to a scifi game. Can anyone recommend a good one with power armor, guns, and that has high tech stuff in a setting kinda like Ghost in the Shell.

Also no 40k. I just want a suit of power armor that is bright red with a black smiley face on it so I can punch through a wall and yell OH YEAH!

Pathfinder is 3.5 with a great deal of debugging. Basically, it's 3.75. If your problems are really with the fundamentals of the system, it might not change much; it's very much a refinement rather than a revolutionary change. By too slow, do you mean advancement? PF characters, especially martial ones, tend to be more powerful than their counterparts. As far as a sci-fi game goes, have you looked at Eclipse Phase?

Yes actually I looking into it currently.

And by too slow I mean combat has so many small rules that cause arguments and it ends up taking 2 hours to kill 10 orcs.

Here's the thing about "boring" game systems.
It's the players and the gm. The ratio may differ from group to group, but if you aren't having fun, it's not the system's fault.

You may be able to get a few sessions of "OH BOY! A NEW SYSTEM! A NEW CHARACTER!" if you can get your players past learning the new rules, but you'll likely find your players falling into the same habits they had with D&D.

There isn't an easy solution for this problem.

To be honest, if you want to stay in the D&D vein, as much as I'm a 3aboo/PFfag, 4e does tactical combat very well and efficiently. That might be worth looking into.

One rules light system I've got a great deal of warm feeling towards is BESM 3e. 2d6 for everything. And really, versatile enough to do any kind of setting. The catch is that if your players have any powergaming instincts at all, I mean, BESM breaks if you look at it funny.

Hmm. Fantasycraft maybe? Might still be a bit complex, but it's extremely customizable. A lot of the division of labor is shifted onto the feat trees.

Maybe it's time to branch out and do something new. I'm personally a fan of Shadowrun, and that's pretty much right in between the fantasy stuff and the kind of future stuff you're talking about. Blade Runner with elves. Might be worth looking into.

If that's your problem with 3e, then PF won't be much better, unless it's specifically the grapple/bullrush/whateverthehell mess you have a problem with. Pathfinder simplifies that.

Yeah, they worked on that. And no health?? Christ, man, D&D is one of the most liberal systems with health I've ever played. Shadowrun you get like 8 health boxes, for instance. I don't think you'll find a system that gives you more health.

Well tanks don't have enough armor to tank. And we are still level 1 after 3 dungeons.

Even though it is 5 of us vs 20 orcs each with 30 health and 15 AC. Also we don't have any rangers while they have all have bows.

So we get hurt. A lot.

Try out Reign, does fantasy well (default setting is interesting and odd) and does large group mechanics really well (Armys, Guilds, Countrys, etc). The rules are also very modular so you can remove almost anything from them (setting included) and not screw them up.

I see a visual cue taken in the art design. But in the gameplay not in the slightest.

And note, I am coming from this as someone who literally hates every iteration of D&D ever made and their shoddily thrown together knockoffs (like C&C, PF and T&T).

I get it, a bit. Shadowrun really does punish you for getting shot, or clubbed in the face with a car bumper.

Definitely a darker setting than D&D, though. However, honestly I don't even count all HP damage as a physical blow. Shadowrun kinda does this with stun damage, but all of the negatives really start to pile up... that game isn't nice. But it's why we like it

Honestly, though, I don't count HP damage as actual blows most of the time. Fatigue in combat works great. Fluffy bits work too, though I do wish combat didn't take so damn long. Shadowrun is nice in the sense that a fight lasts a couple of seconds nearly both in and out of game.
