I've backed myself into a corner here, guys.
I need to figure out exactly how much force is required to pull an average human male's head off. That's PULL, not cut, shear or twist. I have no idea how to calculate something like that, and no idea where I might look it up.

There was some sort of chart produced for the purposes of gauging the proper drop-distance when executing a person by hanging, relative to their weight, that would guarantee neck breakage without pulling off their head.

If you can find that, it should be pretty easy to determine the amount of force that would pull off a human head.

Okay, yeah, that's probably exactly what I would do if this were 1962 (now if it were, say, 1862 I'd just use a condemned prisoner).
Seeing as this is 2011 however, and the only way we're able to communicate with each other is by virtue of the Internet which is primarily a repository of useless and/or information (and useless and bizzare porn) I was hoping for something more along the lines of a number.

Guess. If you can't accurately calculate something like that, chances are that your players can't either, and that they won't really care if you get the numbers right or not. Unless you're GURPS players, and thus get sexually aroused by math and number crunching.

Whatever OP's actually doing could never be as funny as what you imagine he's doing.

why would you need to calculate that?
you could just let him/her roll for strength and decide if its enough or not
and if doesn't depend on a character just decide if it suits your adventure or not

this reminds me about how people argue about decay in post apocalyptic rpgs
which is pointless since pa is fiction
and aside from that the gm is always right

That would make it impossible to perform a hanging without the weight of the body ripping the head clean off, as the force provided by gravity is about 10 Newtons per kg. Fuck, the average human would probably be able to rip his own head off if that was the case.

Yeah, but if he remembers his physics classes it's easy enough to derive. All you have to do is take the distance fallen, use that to find time and final velocity, then it's just f=m(dV/dT) to find the resultant force. From there it's kind of guesswork as to how much of an increase is needed to actually decapitate someone, but that's a good starting point.
