Any L5R players saw the end of the "Race of the Trone" event? Anyone raged at the fact a Spider Clan member ascended as a advisor despite the Crab beating the Spider clan in all aspects except for one?

L5R always intrigued me because, while being very blatantly Japanese, it never struck me as irritating. Possibly because it tries to portray a feudal-style world in a reasonably realistic fashion, as opposed to the modernised garbage that makes most anime unbearable.

Legend of the Five Rings has a system that allows players to shape the lore of the universe were the RPG and the cardgame are set in by events. In the current event, players who won certain tournments or played certain adventures and did other stuff like writting fiction based on the universe won points of influence. The clan with more influence would get to choose a character to be the new Emperor of Rokugan. As well it´s staff.

Somehow, the Spider Clan won it´s way to be the advisor of the Emperor, something that is...Weird by a lore perspective, even after the Emperor anouncing it knows the secrets of the clan (that they are a bunch of Samurai loyal to Daigotsu, the guy on OPs pic, one of the Big Bad of the setting)

I think that´s all.

I actually studied japanese story as well other Asian cultures before even knowing L5R. And I can tell you: It´s not accurated. It´s a fantasy setting with japánese undertones, but awesome japanese undertones. Even saw a Kurosawa film? It´s like that, but with more "dark magic" stuff.

All I wanted was a L5R thread. A great cardgame with a good, well though and well made RPG setting that has some crunch flaws. That´s all. The spider clan aren't really a clan. Groups of Spider clan bushi always seem to turn up to save villages from bandit attacks. They are suspiciously good at this. Almost as if they're hiring the bandits themselves and then saving the day in a ploy to gain favour with the emperor.

Rumours of them secretly working for Daigotsu are just that, rumours.
