You have a 25% chance of rolling a 4 on a 1d4, and a 50% chance of rolling a 4 on a 2d4, meaning that typically you'll be getting damage equivalent to (slightly above the spread, actually) a 3d4. 3d4 > 1d10. A Vorpal Large Glaive has a 10% chance of activating, just for comparison.
So, as it is, a 2d4 has superior minimum damage, improved still further with Gauntlets of Destruction. On its own, Gauntlets of Destruction + Glaive gives a damage range of 4-8 instead of 2-8, AND makes Vorpal even MORE likely to activate. In short, a normal Vorpal Glaive with Gauntlets of Destruction is a monster of exploding damage, while a Large Vorpal Glaive is just a subpar 1d10 weapon.
