</b>hey /tg/ I am going to join a 3.5 game and have no idea for a character, we start at level 1 and all books are allowed

standard point buy system
and the group has a Paladin, Mage, Rouge, and one other who is undecided

help me create a character /tg/ you are my only hope

From what you've posted, the group has their muscle, their skill monkey and their living nuke already. You really have two choices: play a bard or play a secondary skill-monkey.

Playing a bard gives you access to morale boosts, a fair bit of skills, some healing spells(which the rest of your team lacks, Pally's LoH notwithstanding) and general buffing spells. It could be even more useful if you have, or download, Spell Compendium. Critical Strike can be awesome if you're lucky enough, especially for a 1st level spell. There's more, but that's just an example.

A secondary skill-monkey is always good to have around, especially if the primary fucks up a check and gets him/herself poisoned, incapacitated, or pretty much anything else that happens a lot.

You could, potentially, do both if you roll well enough, too, so that's something to keep in mind.

Human Factotum with Int 18 and the Font of Inspiration feat taken twice and every single time you can with no exception. Also pick up Knowledge Devotion, Power Attack, and Leap Attack. Seriously. All you need. Use a greatsword and use your Factotum spells for self buffs like shield and greater mage armor.

Options.

1) Kobold Wizard. Take Improved Natural Armor with each normal feat. Specialize in something that the other wizard doesn't, if not in actual spec than at least in spell selection. Then be study buddies and enjoy both of you effectively having twice the number of spells to research.

2) Dwarven Fighter. Put all points into Con to get it to 20, then pick up Toughness. After that, repeatedly take the stackable feat from Savage Species that gives you 2/- DR.

3) Cleric of your own made up Carnal Sex God(dess). Take Animals as one of your domains. Bonus if you write up detailed fluff and perform "proper" rituals.

Don't forget the 'and more' part. 6+ skill points, healing spells, buff spells, a few 'okay' damage spells, decent BAB and their musical ability.

The only real problem is that most people try to overdo it and actually try to do everything. Just pick one or two ability scores in addition to Charisma and be good at the things that those ability scores get you.

If you can, the Words Of Creation feat is a very good one for a bard. It means you take a small amount of nonlethal damage when you start singing, but it doubles the effects of bardic music (or has some comparable bonus for musics to which a flat doubling doesn't make sense). The requires 15 intelligence, which might be a problem if you want to help stab things but otherwise should be fine.

Charisma is the obvious one to pour everything else into. Is the Rogue wants to be social then this is a tiny bit less important, but it's still what you cast from. Maybe talk to the Rogue player and suggest that he do the sneaky/searchy/trap-finding kind of skills while you pick up the diplomacy/bluff/sense-motive stuff, unless that clashes with what he wants for his character.
