Why do people say they suck? They're fun to play. They've got the sexiness of elves but none of the xenophobia, and the humanity of the humans but none of the humanness.

There's nothing wrong with them fluffwise (well, I personally dislike half-races, but that's just me), but they're like watered-down versions of Elves and Humans, and there's pretty much never a situation where either of those aren't a better choice, mechanics-wise.

RPing is kinda meh for these guys. Not much in the way of racially motivated hooks, except I suppose the obligatory "ew, halfbreed" sort of racism dealie.

Yeah, "fun to play" depends entirely on.. well.. the game and the player. So all that is left that we can subjectively examine is the bonuses.
