plus when you get to owning a certain number of toys opening them becomes a royal pain in the ass because you have no item where to put it and you gotta find a place for the little parts too it`s just easier to leave them in the box

I also haven't bought a toy since feb since distro has been so bad in Canada since november. So I think about that, and I really don't want to be in such an industry.

I do sort of want to make a toy of some kind though. I can sculpt and do 3d modeling, have done some casts of accessories and small pieces. It wouldn't be something I'd do for a portfolio though, or make a career out of. I just want to make one.

Of course, it's not so much engineering but more towards design with toys, joints and range of motion. I would love to create a drawing dummy that has a more realistic range of motion, though.

I think it would be fun to either be a joint engineer, or a public-relations person - kind of like Mikatan, or the 3A folks. Corresponding directly with the fans, doing more grassroots promotion of upcoming products.

It wouldn't be fun to work for one of the big companies (Hasbro, Mattel, main Bandai, etc.), though - a smaller, more collector-oriented company (GSC, Shocker, etc.) would be able to focus on a specific demographic rather than trying to net in as many customers as possible.

I do work in the toy industry, and it's not as dreamy as you all may think. Not everyone gets to be the Four Horsemen. Some of us are just working stiffs that have deadlines and shipping issues and customs hold ups and fucked up parts from China and we're fucking lucky if a toy gets on the shelves in time with minimal raping of your design or packaging art. It has it's moments, though.

Probably once I have some money to sink into it and have built up my skills more I'll try to get a small operation going and see if we can do something. I think I can do a good job on the design side of things and I'm getting better at painting. Thinking of maybe working on making 1/6 clothes. Not sure if I want to work on sculpting myself or not. I'd probably rather give that responsibility to someone else who was really into it. So possibly I'd only really need as far as other creative people someone to do the sculpts and someone who can do screen printing and stuff, if I can do most of the design work, the painting, and maybe with some work I'll be able to sew the clothing. I might turn out to suck at that part though. Regardless, I think I could get something going with just a couple other people, so it might not be too hard to do. It'll just be hard to not end up losing thousands of dollars on it haha.
