Here's a question for you. Suppose that after the upcoming MP-10 Masterpiece Optimus Prime comes out, the next masterpiece figure turns out to be Dinobot from Beast Wars. What do you think the transformation would be like in order to make the robot mode as show accurate as possible?

I'm thinking that they'd have to pull off some wicked 'meshing' wizardry so that the Dino head could lay spread against his chest piece. Knowing TakaraTomy though, they could probably figure out a way to pull it off.

Also a MP BW Grimlock would be an optional repaint, hopefully minus the GPS. I just can't get enough of that dalmatian raptor paint scheme.

Eh, I can't see a Masterpiece of any Beastformer turning out well. Even if they managed to nail the bot mode, the beast mode probably be an ugly mess of seams and panels.

There's a reason why Beast Wars had so many shellformers, after all.

Then again if they did do an MP Dinobot, I could easily see a third party group doing the guns/gunbelts while the official release could come with both golden disks.

It would be awesome if they made all of the claws/fingers on his hands individually articulated and have a gimmick similar to Masterpiece Grimlock with color changing optics to represent when he fires lasers from his eyes.

Yeah, that one's pretty good. Not sure if the scale of parts would match up so nicely in an actual figure though. Also not sure he would have proper leg articulation with those fancy hip panels swiveling up from the knee.
They could maybe stick in some shoulder armor by extending the upper arms farther out.

No way the next Masterpiece would ever be Dinobot. It would most likely be another high ranking G1 character like Galvatron, Shockwave, or Jazz

Even if they did a Beast Wars character, it would be far more likely for it to be Optimus Primal or BW Megatron first since they're the leaders. Even Rattrap and Cheetor would rank hgher than Dinobot

That said, we'd most likely get MP Grimlock retooled as Beast Wars Dinobot if only to get more usage out of the mold. They MIGHT toss in a BW Dinobot head added to the figure but that's the closest we'll get....

No such thing as show accuracy as the toys are always designed first. The shows then alter the easthetics to suit animation or aesthetics purposes.

If anything the shows are not toy accurate.

Which is beside the point entirely. Rattrap has been shown in no uncertain terms to be of higher rank as he was put in command in one episode, in which Dinobot disobeyed a direct order from him.

Rattrap would get an MP mold before Dinobot would, and even that is an extreme unlikelyhood.

No, we wouldnt. Dinobot is not a high ranking character. the MP line is primarily a format for TF leaders. (Thundercracker and Skywarp only existed because a Starscream mold was already made) Dinobot is not a leader. Period.

We'd have an infinately higher chance of a G2 blue Grimlock and a black redeco out of Grimlock's mold before we'd ever see a Dinobot remold

What I said is he would not have an MP format figure because the MP Format is for leaders and high ranking characters. Save for the two aforementioned Seeker repaints, all of the new molds created for the MP line have been leaders.

Does that mean that a new Dinobot toy is out of the question? Of course not. Id be suprised if he DIDN'T get a new one in the next decade. But the point is that a BW Dinobot would never be in the MP format.

Optimus Primal, BW Megatron, Big Convoy, LioConvoy and BWII Galvatron would be more likely as they are leaders. But even them I couldnt see being made untill a few more G1 characters came out.

You want proof? Then look no further than the existing lineup. THe MP Line consists of

Optimus Prime (Leader of the Autobots)

UltraMagnus (A high ranking character. Has been supreme commander briefly. Also made primarily to take advantage of the mold)

Megatron (Leader of the Decepticons)

Nemesis Prime / Black Convoy (While not a leader, was made solely because of the Optimus Prime mold being made first. Or could simply be veiwed as just a black redeco of Prime)

Grimlock (Has served as supreme commander of the Autobots and is the leader of the Dinobots)

The Masterpiece series has so far been all about the primary characters who dominated the G1 the series. The characters who got the most screen-time in the cartoon and comic storylines were Optimus, Megatron, the Seekers, Bumblebee, Hot Rod (who Hasbro had intended to replace Optimus with after killing Optimus off and got big chunks of screen time), and Grimlock, who essentially assumed Bumblebee's role as babysitter in later seasons of the cartoon and was a fan-favorite in the comic. The fact that they were "high-ranking" has more to do with their starring roles in the series and the way the characters were pitched than anything else. The only reason we haven't had a Masterpiece Bumblebee is because the Masterpiece series is faithful to the original G1 designs and the VW Beetle is off-limits and too iconic to get away with using, not because he was just a scout.

However the figures in the MP line are Optimus, Megatron, Starscream Hot Rod and Grimlock. Are you going to tell me that these characters have never served high-ranking roles in ANY liscensed G1 fiction? Because there are scores of references that can support my statement.

The Seekers were made, but only because Starscream, a high ranking character was made first. Had a toy labelled Skywarp or Thundercracker been released before Starscream, then you might have a point. But the mold was made primarily for Starscream because of his role in the Decepticon Command. The other Seekers were only made because Starscream was made first.

It's beside your point, but not beside the point of the topic.
If rank mattered more than popularity, we would have Jhiaxus. (I love getting figures of those comic book characters, but HAHAHAHAHAHA!)
and Grimlock was only a leader in the comic books, which Japan didn't get.

They haven't made any promises on what they would or would not do with the line. They could just do leaders if they thought they couldn't afford the risk of doing otherwise. On the other extreme, if we're going to get anal-retentive about rank, Prowl would have to get an MP figure. (even less exciting than Grimlock.)
