Hi guys, Haven't posted here before, but I was looking for some advice about selling toys in general. I know that PVC figures aren't strictly part of /toy/ (or so I heard a long time ago), but I plan to sell one of my figmas the same way so I hope this is related to the board. I'm preparing to sell a figure overseas to someone on myfigurecollection, and I'm going to accept paypal as the payment method (but NOT credit card). I know that typically alot of chargeback scams occur with credit cards, but I hear the buyer can also scam by claiming it was an unauthorised transaction or that the goods never arrived. Do any of you have any tips on how to minimize this risk? I'm selling this figure at a loss already, I just need to get rid of it since it doesn't 'fit' with my collection, but i'd rather not lose to a dishonest bastard. tl;dr How to avoid being scammed by a claim on Paypal (not cc , but money transfer) Also as a post script; are there any good sites to teach me how to assemble and paint garage kits?

Don't sell overseas. Use signature confirmation.

Anyway, don't sell to Japan, take photos of the item before and after being packaged so the buyer can't fuck you over saying it's busted, use insured shipping.

Anyway, don't sell to Italy, take photos of the item before and after being packaged so the buyer can't fuck you over saying it's busted, use insured shipping.

1. PayPal doesn't provide seller protection to international shipments outside of the US. It doesn't matter if their address is confirmed (credit card attached or I think social security number) or verified (bank account attached). Those two things just increase the chances they aren't going to scam you but don't guarantee it. 2. Always insure the package. There are cheaper third party insurance services out there which provide full coverage including the cost of shipping itself. You are looking at about $1.05 or so to insure $100. 3. Always use signature confirmation for stuff valued over $250 and delivery confirmation for everything else. This is the policy to get seller protection within the US. If you have no reason to trust this guy or don't "feel right" then DO NOT SHIP IT. I've done some international sales here on /toy/ and haven't been scammed but I trusted my instincts. It is still a pain in the ass with the customs forms and various BS dimension limits on certain shipping options. That's why I prefer US buyers but I will definitely deal with people like TK again or people who vouch for international buyers on /toy/ as being legitimate.

Thanks for the replies, I'll definitely look into 3rd party insurance. I looked at the Australian Paypal user agreement, and it doesn't exclude me (Selling this item to Argentina), but I may have to pay fees in the case a dispute arises: Also I will take pictures; thats a damned good idea, Timestamped as well.

Actually I made a mistake with my first post so here is the fixed version to avoid causing confusion with people. 1. Paypal only provides seller protection to "business" and "premier" accounts. Read the policies carefully to make sure the country you are shipping to isn't excluded. Only ship to "confirmed" (credit card attached or a few other forms of ID) or "verified" (bank account attached) addresses. This will decrease your chances of being scammed but it's not a guarantee as scammers can get around this. 2. Always insure the package. There are cheaper third party insurance services out there which provide full coverage including the cost of shipping. It's about $1.05 per $100 on average or less. Make sure the country you are shipping to isn't on their exclusion list. 3. Always use signature confirmation for stuff valued over $250 and delivery confirmation for everything else. If you feel uncomfortable about this sale for any reason follow your instincts and DO NOT SHIP IT. Even with the seller protection policies covering you it doesn't guarantee they won't do a charge back for "unauthorized transaction". PayPal can't stop the bank if they believe the guy's card was stolen but you MAY eventually win your money back. The annoyance of customs forms and shipping restrictions, plus higher fraud levels with international purchases is why I prefer to ship to the US only. Most people don't want to be paying $25-40 shipping for something. However, if it's a trusted buyer you've either dealt with before, a friend or someone who is vouched for by a community as being legitimate you can usually send stuff fairly worry free via options that don't offer tracking. I'd do business with people like TK again no problem.

also, suck it up and go to the e2046 forums. You will never see so many reacharounds in your life. It is also the highest concentration of skilled and unskilled english speaking resin builders, and the skilled guys are good at answering questions. Ask your questions straight, never critique, and you'll be fine.
