I'm a conservative and did not vote for Obama, but it had absolutely nothing to do with his race or his religion (and no, I don't believe he's Muslim). I just didn't agree with the man's political beliefs.
A lot of people unfortunately were hung up on some misinformation that came out early in the Democratic primary campaign "brought to light" by the Clinton camp. It was a rumor that spread like wildfire, and we all know how hard it is to suppress rumor.
I don't know if Jin really did just use this disinformation to stir up hits for his cancer awareness custom or not, but the choice was unwise one way or another. In such a situation where race was such a touchy issue, one must excercise extremely keen judgement when making public statements.
Yes, free speech is just that, but you also have to be willing to take the hits for speaking out on a controversial issue.
Is racism wrong? I believe it is. Should having such sentiments be illegal? Not on your life. Free speech is to precious a right to be infringed because it hurts someone's feelings.
BUT... if you say dumb things... expect immediate consequences whether they are right or wrong.
You can talk all you want about what you want to... just don't expect everyone to love you for it.
