This all started because of what Jin suggested at the SDCC this year. It was overheard at the booth he was saying they could just pull them from cases that arrived at the hts warehouse and grade them.

Coincidence they didn't start doing this until right after the sdcc? And it was announced on the Hisstank boards BEFORE the graded figures even showed up? And with Jin's name attached?

I'm glad someone was there standing next to him listening in. Now we know who to pin this fuckfest on.

From the start of the current line, GI Joe has been primarily a collectors line (this will change as it switches over to the movie...). So a lot of the distribution strategies and demographic models are drawn significantly from the last 3 years or so of Star Wars figures where the toyline had to stand alone without mainline media support. Do you really think it's a coincidence that the Star Wars and GI Joe comic packs are nearly identical?

Hard Master got a figure. It isn't comic-accurate in the least... but he's gotten one.

And so has Scarface.

But really, it depends on how much they can exploit the existing tools in the line for stuff like that, because the GI Joe line doesn't have the budget of a mega-franchise like Star Wars. Nor can they release quite as many subtle colour variations of goons quite as succesfully as they have with Clone Troopers (who, frankly, pay for the tooling of just about every other Star Wars figure).

At first I was annoyed that Scarface was with the Crimson Guard with removeable helmet. It was essentially a troop buildier two pack though. So I bought a couple when they went on sell. I have 3 sets. Then while I was rooting through my figures I noticed that the Cobra Air Troopers are essentially Cobra Officers (what Scarface is without his remolded head) with extra accessories. So I swapped out the accessories for 2 Air Troopers with my 2 extra Scarfaces. Now I have Scarface as the head of the Cobra Officers with his two lower Officer underlings, and then with the full helmet of the Air Troopers the other two Scarfaces aren't "doubles", they've become generic Air Troopers.

The Jacket would have to be different, though... Hannibal's instead of Mutt's. Given that they already have a 'leather jacket' mold (and one that IIRC fits onto the 25A bodies already), the one accessory that's problematic is easily dealt with.

I agree, but the thing about baseball cards is that you just look at them, front and back, and then set it down again. Putting it in a plastic covering does nothing to impede your enjoyment of that card, since it's transparent.

Whereas sticking toys in that plastic box... well, not only is the toy unopened but now there's another box over the packaging of the toy to pervent it from being opened, giving it a monetary value that's above what the toy should cost in the first place. Especially considering that these toys are extremely common... like that peg warmer Cobra Commander in OP's pic.
