Lego Mindstorms

I just got Lego Mindstorms second hand (well, more like getting, but that's irrelevent)

I'm looking for awesome models to build - Doesn't matter if they can't be built with the RIS - just something awesome to build with this set to stop it sitting around unused!

I've been interested in mindstorms lately. I have no idea just how things work and all that. Just that that set has a hefty pricetag, as do the special intelligent bricks in the lego store.

Someone care to show me stuff that was done with mindstorms and explain if they are awesome?

we used this for our first year mechanical engineering design course. we programmed robots in a kind of visual basic language that comes with the mindstorms software and made a robot that navigates a maze by following black lines and sensing walls. also we built a submarine that sensed depth and moved at a constant depth (we used more than just lego pieces for this)
