>>341899>what does it matter what they sell them as? Toys can be art too.You missed my point. It matters because they sell their figures at massive MARK UP due to them being labeled as art.
I think all toys are art too, and just because they're mass market doesn't change my opinion on that matter. It's all pretentious bullshit.
You could argue that those lifesize statues of Storm Troopers, Alien, Darth Vaders and other geeky replicas that Sharper Image sells can be considered toys because you can move them around the same as Monster in my Pockets, or they might have a point or two of articulation... but they're NOT toys. Same as vinyl figures. They're not MEANT to be toys. They're considered and labeled to be works of art and replicas, and because of that /toy/ will reject them.
There ARE few exceptions to this rule, where sometimes some independent vinyl toy maker will make figures because he's always wanted to make toys, but since he can't produce them cheaply enough and won't be able to make his money back, he will sell them as art. (have fun trying to convince /toy/ this though)
Gunpla and other such models are also an exception, since most of the time they're marketed toward kids, but since they involve so many small fragile pieces they're labeled as models. They're not viewed as serious models because of the articulation, already being colored, and who they're marketed to.
>Why not post Marvel Legends threads in /co/ then?People do.
Sometimes they seem to be more up to date on comic related toys in /co/ than in /toy/
They post new figures there all the time, even stuff i didn't know about like those DC equivalents of Mighty Muggs.
You should know all about this, since i thought you went to /co/?
