Any friendless losers on /trv/ who actually travel, and don't just fap to the idea of traveling? If so, how do you cope with being a friendless loser while you travel? Don't you feel bad that you'll never share your experiences with anyone when you come back home?

Not trolling, it's just that I'm a friendless loser too, and I would really like to travel and it's practically my last chance to do so (almost 30), and I think it'll only make me even more depressed when I come back and I don't even have anyone to show the photos to :(

Oh, quit bitching. There are more meaningful things in life than showing fucking pictures to people...like actually experiencing the world (even if alone, better than not at all).

Traveling by yourself can actually be pretty great, partly because you get to do you what you want to do (no having to agree on things among multiple people), but also because you really get to "be" whoever you want - its a feeling of freedom basically.

You don't, unless you have a planned itinerary with an agency, a letter of guarantee from a hotel/hostel you're staying at or similar. ITT you confirm you've never ever applied for a visa to anywhere.

However, in practice, when you're at the embassy, they don't care.

I had this situation in China, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Went to a 5 day trip in prague with friends.
On the last day we decided to split and visit whatever we wanted alone.
First 4 days were awesome, some of the best time I've ever had in my life. Last day was incredibly boring.
So I understood that traveling per-se isn't what makes traveling good.

OP, travelling alone is exactly what you need. You will find the part inside of yourself that doesn't need to be dependant on other human beings, the beautiful self-sustained unchained part of yourself.

And when you come home you will make many friends. Chase friendship desperately and it will fly away; learn to not need it (but do appreciate it) and it will come to you like bees to honey.

Sometimes I wanted to share an experience, other times I'm happy it was just me. Ended up a little crazy, talking to myself, taking big risks, didnt feel lonely. A lot of people travel alone, I often traveled with other loners if only to the next city. Don't be a pussy, no one cares if you travel alone, some people are jelly when they see loners having fun

however i also did france around 3.5 years ago for 1 and a half months in a group of 6 people. we did alot more travelling in the more populated areas.
two very different travel experiences only possible through two different travel approachs. some people like company, others dont.
all i can really say on the matter is that if you go with people, be careful who. two weeks with anybody will make you see their flaws.

I travelled europe alone, it was pretty good. just met other loners and travelled with them but mostly i did my own thing. an important variable is where you are travelling. say you were going to australia, its rather large and the main cities are rather isolated and not as easy to travel as in the more compact continents. Being a travel pair, it means you have two brains working out how to get to the next point as well as logical thinking, being alone tends to make you a bit more risky as the days/weeks/months roll by. but if one of those brains is an idiot than they are really dead weight, besides the company factor of course.

I'd probably kill myself after traveling and seeing so many interesting people with so many friends and such awesome lives in hostels and such, and then coming back home to my empty apartment with no one to call. It would be incredibly depressing.

my 2 year trip went like this.

NY, Israel, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, Thailand, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Israel, NY.

I flew into Tel-Aviv, Istanbul, and Bangkok. I had a one way ticket to Bangkok and Istanbul. Not once was i asked for a return flight. My ticket back to NY left from Tel-Aviv which I had to renew and keep pushing back - In total that cost me 125 dollars.

Also i have been traveling alone but i just end up doing nothing but chilling, no real exploring. Think i am going to do the anapura range alone.

I like when i have friends. I have a hard time being alome and doing stuff. Part of the reason i went traveling was to become more ar one with doing nothing ( i constenly felt i needed to be doing something at all waking moments) and to become more comfortable being alone, but i have learned i like being with someone. Specially a girls whos cool, not dead weight.
Still wish to become more at ease with my self, but still cant do that well after 5 months.

When I went traveling around the Middle East this was never an issue. Not with the Syrian visa I got in advance, and not with any of the ones I got when I just rocked up at the border/at the airport. Apart from Israel they didn't even ask me how I was planning on leaving.

Honestly, why not just keep travelling? If you're physically fit, have any IT skills or are an able writer, you can make do on the road. Sure, you won't travel in luxury, and won't stay in hostels every night (at least in the beginning) but it'll be better than, well, offing yourself.

Travel is FREEDOM. Freedom from the chains of your existing culture, so now you can be whoever you want to be.

And what I find is, you become more open, more warm, more funny, more "I don't give a fuck attitude ..." and you overall become a happier person.

Of course, life is a balance, that's why everyday you should strive for health (exercise), emotion (make friends), material (make money), mental (learn)

Think of those as the 4 pillars to happiness in life.

I've been alone for years now. I don't think going to some other country will magically make me feel fine.

I've found that part, and it sucks. There is a reason the vast majority of people have friends and relationships.

Same. People who spout that bullshit are usually people with a shitload of friends who are just sick and tired of them and need a break, and they can't understand what it's like to be utterly alone 24/7 for fucking years (which is when it really becomes for the rest of one's life).

Physically fit: Probably the easiest. Walk up to any farm and ask if they want to trade work for food and shelter for a night or two. It won't work the first time, or the second, but keep trying.

IT skills are applicable especially in larger cities, if you have a laptop with you. Just find a place with free wifi, go online on CG or whatever and find some (local, preferably) website coding jobs. I'm not sure how doable this is in America, but in my country it is.

Writing takes longer time. Blogging or whatever should work, but that won't bring in any revenue for at least a year or two, so doing it for the money isn't really an option.

My point is, you can find an under the table job on the road reasonably quickly, but you need to actually get out there and do it. It's easier to, of course, get a job beforehand and save up enough, but it's possible if you're willing to rough it on a regular basis.

This hasn't worked since the 70s dude. And even then it only really worked in movies. And farms are REALLY far away from each other. And if they need someone to work on a farm, they have workers already. People will just laugh in your face or call the cops on a crazy drifter.

It's not doable at all, you have to work 24/7 for paltry sums because Indians and such are undercutting the prices so that you can't get a normal gig even for pocket money, much less for funding a traveler's lifestyle.

It doesn't work, not anymore, too many people doing it. It only works for a select few, and even then not to an extent that could fund someone's travels entirely.

You really can't. Unless you're a very specific type of person looking for a very specific type of job (i.e. hot chick looking to be a waitress/stripper/whore for example). But generally for average people, it doesn't work at all.

I usually travel with my whole family or with my sister, but I have traveled alone once. It was a very nice experience but it was only for a week. When I was in natural areas and hiking around I had a wonderful time. When I was in the cities, where it's more about 'going out', things were not that great and I felt a bit lonely. Even then, hostel people are usually friendly so if you're a bit outgoing (hard, I know), things can turn out well.

So my advice is to stick to natural attractions.

I traveled Russia alone and depressed. It really hindered my ability to talk to other travelers there, and I almost regret going because I didn't magically become happy there (yeah it's depressing russia but it'd been my dream for years).
