evening /trv/

I am headed to Dallas for a coulpe days to check out a show and a few other things. I've been there a few times and I always leave with the impression that it's the shittiest big city in North America. However it may just be that you may have to look around to find the cool spots. Specifically I'm looking for underground/alternative type places where some subculture may reside, especially bars. Hunting around on the internet hasn't unearthed much for me, especially the Dallas Observer which stikes me as a giant ad.

tl;dr where are the parts of Dallas like Austin?
