Statuettes and general household decorations. Sometimes (rarely) of cultural icons, sometimes not, but always must have the feel of the culture it's from. Like a little black wooden Indian horse, painted in a very traditional method, 2 Japanese cats rubbing their heads against each other, a boomerang from Australia, etc.
Clothes is a big one, especially if in a third world country. Lovely, unique outfits for very little money, if you shop where the locals shop!
Local food, if from a first-world country and there is interesting food in the first place. Blue cheese, dried crab snacks, etc. Must be able to stay unrefrigerated, obviously.
