Discuss the best place in the world to live and WHY.
My nomination for best place in the U.S: Portland, ME.
1. Cheap(ish) housing downtown; cost of living isn't TOO high, but very high quality.
2. Beautiful architectural style (traditional new englander).
3. Nice sized city, IMO (490K people living in entire metro area - about 65K in city)
4. Full seasons - moderate summers, somewhat harsh winters (a plus in my book) , and very comfortable spring and fall seasons.
5. The natural environment is incredible. The atlantic is right at your fingertips, and the land surrounding the city is picturesque, to say the least.
6. The people are friendly and moderately intelligent, in the context of the U.S.
7. Very artist-friendly. People here love art and therefore buy art. The arts district is very large relative to the size of the city, and housing around the district is very cheap. This matters to me, considering i'm a freelance artist/musician.
Other considerations:
Gothenburg, SWE
Nice, FR
Christchurch, NZ
