This question goes out to new zealanders or anyone who knows about new zealand culture. I was asked out to the movies by a man from NZ, but he claims that in NZ going to the movies != date. Is he just BSing so that I'm more inclined to go, or is this true?

He also asked me out to coffee the other day, which he claimed was the same deal, but he paid for my coffee, which seems like a pretty date-like move.
