I have an opportunity to go to Lome, Togo for about two months over summer (southern hemisphere fag here) to teach english.

If anyone has been there or in the area (west africa) could you provide some sagely advice on what to expect and bring?

Btw, I don't speak a word of french. Will that be a problem?
