im studying in paris right now.
if you ask me its really complicated. of course you run into douche bags, anywhere, and some french can get unreasonably rude.
however
most of the time theyre super nice and helpful (outside of paris this is much more common). also 2nd what the guy said about french youth culture.
just try to speak their language
they are also very properly mannered, and conduct themselves in a certain way in public, when eating, etc.
i live in a residence with a bunch of ppl and you'd never see a french person eating spaghetti from the pot. they'd put it on a place. i also get stupid comments from french faggots about the food i eat (ooh american meal) but then i just tell them that i bought it at a french grocery store. but these are the rude/douche bags, not the nice ones.
i guess french service is just so indifferent, which could be confused for rude. they dont work hard to earn your patronage/tip (cuz you dont tip) but they dont ignore you completely.
bums are more pleasant in paris. they dont harangue you and talk to you for 15 minutes on a street corner about stupid shit like they do at home trying to get a dollar. they usually just sit with a sign or a cup or ride the metro and ask.
