My university has 60 people from Nepal doing a foreign exchange program here in the states and I've sold cell phones to like 40 of them, so I've started talking to them and getting to know a few. Buying and selling stuff is apparently a lot more competitive over there, where you have to be a dick to get people's attention because you won't get help otherwise. Otherwise though they say that the young people enjoy hanging out with foreigners, and the older people are more worried about the money than anything.
Lonely planet says that you might get stuck with some fines because of some military transition they are going through (communism/capitalism thing maybe), but that they are so low that they only turn out to be like $10 USD.
