Does anyone here know anything about Portland, OR?

I'm planning on moving there in about a year and a half, and I don't really know anything at all. Any information about Northwest Portland would be appreciated, and I'd probably be living in the Pearl District, if that helps.

I'm from portland. If you dont like beer, dont move there, first of all. 2, its got great strip clubs, and lots of them.

Lots of stuff to do in the surrounding area. Powells book store is the best book store in the country.

Hotcake house, always awesome. Kennedy School McMinniman's bar is great. Its an old school they turned into a large bar.

I visited it once and I was fucking disgusted. So many methheads and beggars in the streets and they'll really harass you for money. I was impressed by the public transit network and bike friendliness, but the city is shit and Oregon has a really serious meth problem. I'd try somewhere else in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle if you can afford it).

It's a decent city, the streets suck for driving, the system makes sense once you get used to it but learning to drive here is a pain in the ass.
musically pretty active, lots of bands move to portland in an attempt to get signed [similar to austin, TX].
public transportation is decent, buses travel to most parts of the city most times, overcrowding will be an issue in the next ten years.

other notables:
constant construction
lack of jobs in many fields
people are friendly on the street, eye contact happens without people getting stabbed [huge + for me]
summer is HOT, winter is COLD AND WET, fall is cold. All the seasons are very pretty.

the city is nice, but we have a lot of fucking meth heads.
