Basically what it is, I don't know *shit* about travel and the world and stuff, and that's pretty damn pathetic. I'm 22yo male from Liverpool, UK.

I've got no ties to keep me here and I've recently had an inheritence of £75,000 GBP (Grandad died, his house was sold at the height of the property boom and I got half, I know, spoiled cunt). I reckon I might try living in a different country and maybe buy a house there cheap or something just for the hell of it.

It would have to be somewhere English speaking so maybe Australia/NZ or Canada.

Any thoughts on this? Or if this is fucking stupid, what should I do instead? I'm genuinely out of my depth here.

I would not want to live in the UK, I am actually 2nd generation British, our family came to the USA in WWII and my grandfather still has british citizenship.

Anyways, yeah move out of the UK, I know how much you Eurofags hate America but you should consider moving here. You'll be a pussy magnet with your accent and everyone will want to hire you.

Its also like, a free country.

Immigration is a little tough, and unless your educated, it might be tough. They like white people with lots of money though.

Barring that, I'd suggest NZ. Its easy to move around the commonwealth nations, and I think you might have an easier time immigrating there.

The pound is the lowest it's been for ages, so I'd certainly wait before buying anywhere and even advise investing your money (even if it's just a high interest savings account, although stocks are the choice for the biggest gains).

I'm currently working as a diesel fitter for a marine engineering company, although I'm unqualified, except for GCSE (high-school). Do you think if I lied about my qualifications and got my boss to back me up I could get away with that? Failing that, I can drive a lorry or do some motorcycle courier stuff maybe. I don't know.. I'm guessing I couldn't get Australian citizenship because of this?

I'm probably looking for an urban life, but I'm not mad about going out all the time and shit..

Thanks for the advise so far guys, as I say, I'm dazed and confused about the whole thing.. America would be fun I suppose, damn I need to decide somewhere.

The ironic thing is though that once I've seen everywhere I wouldn't be able to settle anywhere.

My daydream was to buy a cheap house in, say, Australia, and since their cost of living is lower than ours and I wouldn't have to rent, then I could chill out a bit, do a little bit of work here and there, see the country, maybe visit New Zealand. The reality however, is completely different.

I'm a Brit that emigrated to Australia when I was 8. I've been back to the UK a few times and believe me, Australia is not that much cheaper than England. It's probably on a par.

Although you do get more for your money, house-wise.

You really don't need that much money at all. I firmly believe the less you spend, the more rewarding the experience.

I know a couple people that have gone abroad (New Zealand) with nothing more than a small backpack and a plane ticket. Got visas to work there for 3 - 4 months ; go bum around until money gets low, wait tables for a couple weeks, hit the road again, repeat...

That could be true. Also, by the time you've traveled everywhere, you may get tired of it and want to settle down and fuck some young, moon faced chick from a developing nation until you die.

Honestly, i'd take the money and travel. Spend it wisely so you don't have to get a job within five years if you don't want to. There's still some places in the world you can buy land at $15/m^2, so don't rush into anything.

Hello OP, Ausfag here.
Getting Aussie citizenship is no easy feat these days- although you might find it a little easier than most being a fellow commonwealth citizen.
If you live here long enough, you can apply for permanent residency (which pretty much means you can live here forever, you just don't get an australian passport)

However, to get PR or citizenship, you need to fulfill some certain requirements:

1) Have lived here for at least a certain amount of time. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but from memory it's around 3 years living here continuously.

2) Have something the government wants.
You're a diesel fitter? That could actually work in your favour. Australia is screaming out for apprentices and young skilled workers. And I'm sure they'd rather give the job to a young guy from a first-rate education system than ship in some filipino who can't read (which is what they've been doing) Lying about your qualifications is not a good idea- they will check your whole academic record, and they will know if you are lying.

Make sure you state that you are willing to work in rural areas- even if you are not. This will give you many thousands of brownie points on your application.

3) This is probably the easiest one- marry an aussie girl. As a commonwealth citizen you can very easily get a long-term working visa, so use all the time you'll have to meet girls. Once you're married to an Australian citizen, you are guaranteed permanent residency. After you've been a PR for a while, you are guaranteed citizenship. Too easy.

I don't know if it would really give you the worldly experience though. Hell, I don't know if going to any 1st world English speaking country would.
