>>81971So, i've read this a few times on here. Are there a bunch of expats living in Thailand like bare ass fucking poor or something? Not really, more or less emo kids dressing up like ravers and hippies, trying to become "kewl ravers" and in the process, having no fucking money. They are cheaper than the locals who earn about $2000 a year. They walk in the sun when locals are taking public transportation, for example. It is head shakingly stupid to see, but good for the lulz, I guess. The Japanese students do this when they are in Thailand too. It is hilarious. True story:
I was staying in a guesthouse in Thailand long termish. They got a Japanese guy, maybe 20 year old. He would just sit in his room all day aparently, come out twice a day to eat. He ate a cup of rice, and some water. Not even bottled water. he negotiated the price of rice from 10 baht, to 8 (about $0.25- $0.20).... He actually stayed there for about 3 weeks, and as far as anyone knew, that is what he did. He didn't look sick or anything. Just sat there in his room and watched his fan spin around all day. Just before he left, he came tot eh office to inquire about the trekking tours offered. The normal cost was about 3000 baht for three days of hiking, camping and seeing "native" shit, etc. He asked if they could just take his camera along the next trip out, and he would pay one of them 500 baht to just take pictures on his camera. They didn't only because they were afraid of the liability of the camera (it was a fucking nice ass Sony, as I recall, about half a years salary for one of the tour guides)
This shit goes on and on. Why bother going to a foreign country if you plan on living like a fucking monk? Better just to be an actual monk and grow spiritually or something.
