Destinations, work and saving up?

No.82715 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'm hoping to go travelling once I finish university in 2010/ 2011. I'm studying for a degree in social work, and so far I have about £1000 in savings after 1 year.

I'd like to move around from place to place, work for rent and travel expenses, etc., probably stay with a few close friends in Europe and the US as well as visit a few places on my own. And if I find a place I like maybe settle down and look for a social work job.

However, I know it's not going to be like in books and movies, it won't be easy and it'll be expensive. But what kind of jobs would be worth looking for? What places are likely to hire on the spot or relatively quickly when you don't have much experience and might only be there for a couple months? Where's best to stay- cheap hotels, motels, B&Bs, hostels etc?

Also I know the university does some placements. Some are just educational transfers, but there's work placements for things like American summer camps (sounds rewarding but a little restrictive) and work placements.

I know this is pretty vague and badly worded, just looking for a little pre-emptive advice.
