Be careful with that kind of talk. String theory is a model in the same way that the standard model of elementary particles is a model. Both have about the same amount of connection to reality. Forgive the in-progress nature of string/M-theory... I'm sure the quantization won't be too many decades more in coming.

Kaku is a douche. Ive actually met him and NDT. Neil is way WAY more accessable and willing to answer questions with humor.

Kaku isnt even a real person when you meet him. He's like a politician lizard person, putting on fake airs and playing it up like a cheeseball.

NDT knows his stuff, wants to talk about it, and is willing to answer difficult "layman style" questions without being self important or talking down to people.

Let me put it this way. You would never find Kaku playing with model spaceships when no one is looking, but theres no doubt that NDT still goes "pishooo" with the models around his office.

Oh please, I know a dozen people way smarter than him. And unlike Kaku, these guys have actually contributed to scientific understanding, instead of grand-standing and philosophizing.

I know, he does a lot of good work in publicizing science, and in getting people interested in science, but still when people mistake him for a great scientist it really rustles my jimmies.
