Both are great, but I prefer the book because the characters don't just react to things.
I'll give you some example:
The foot cutting scene was a tactical descision from the bad guys in the book, but in the movie it was a spur of the moment thing.
The jumping with a firehose thing was more planned out in the novel, in the movie it's a last chance stunt.
I could go on and I know that the novel wouldn't have made such a good movie if they didn't change things a little. It would have been more boring.
