No one else has anything close to the production quality as a Hollywood movie.

Bollywood still hasn't evolved past 1970's made for TV movies film techniques, i.e. zoom in from a quarter mile away for a reaction shot.

Japan has doesn't have any actors, it has place holders that push their huge amount over pretentious and convoluted dialogue through the tiniest of needles, it's like they are all emotionally constipated. They have visually striking movies but no ability to tell the story any other way than the visual medium.

European films are just damn ugly, all of them, in every aspect of the word.

Animation wise, Germans tell the most efficient stories that have this technically perfect visual background and the ugliest fucking main characters imaginable.

The current Russian animation is so soulless it only serves it's purpose of story telling and then it ends.

Australian animation is unimaginative and just about as ugly as the English. The potential is there for a regular movie with real people but...it's just so poor.

THE ENGLISH HOLY FUCK WHY?! Everything Hollywood can do the English can do, but they do it so much worse. All of their movies are at least trending 10-15 years behind in production quality of American made for TV movies. The writing is superb, the stories are fantastic but it's like they have no peripheral vision in their minds eye. Visually everything fits in the box and nothing makes you question why, or is their to make you inquisitive. For example let's compare SG-1 to Doctor Who, in SG-1 the Replicators first appeared in the year 2000 they looked great then, they look great still, 11 years later Doctor Who can't even make a decent looking virtual alien.

Anyway, Amelie, while a great movie, really doesn't belong on that list. Films like Lawrence of Arabia, Ikiru, various other Bergman films, or even Casablanca, as well as dozens of others I forget/haven't watched deserve the spot more.

Everyone who has even opened a film history book knows that most major cinematic breakthroughs were made in European countries and American directors adapted those techniques. The more "auteur" based cinema also was strong in Europe when in USA films were just circus fun for the people.

I don't really care for Pixar or Dreamworks and have never rabidly taken sides. I've just never been crazy about CGI cartoons, I've always preferred traditional medium. I know that the artists in both mediums work very hard at their craft but I just love the ink and paint cel media better.
If there's one thing I miss about the Animation Renaissance of the 80s/90s, it's Don Bluth's artistry. Pixar has taken on Bluth's storytelling, which I guess is a good thing.

Just because I don't like the medium itself doesn't mean I always dislike any of the movies. I really enjoyed Kung Fu Panda and Toy Story is basically a big part of animation history, it's one of those required films.

Calarts has a reputation for very cookie cutter, standardized and rigid styles of animation.

The reason it is so renowned is simply because alot of people got hired from there, which has given it an undeserved reputation of grandeur. One only needs to look how fucking cookie cutter and how shitty modern animation is getting even from the animation kings themselves disney because of fucking Calarts shitty fucking animation styles.

Fucking Anime is overtaking the US in animation techniques... that is right, fucking 4 fps, limited animation Japan has been fucking out preforming the US.

There needs to be a major shakeup in the animation world, because techniques are getting fucking shit.

Oh and also not one Smarm brow was used in the entirety of Legend of the Guardians.. in actual fact Legend of the Guardians pulled off emotion so well in the faces that at times I forgot I was watching fucking Owls.

Except that's wrong you retard. If anything Happy Feet and Legends of the Guardian are far more stiff and standardized. They just took animal photos and rigidly copied them without any consideration for character design or expression. That's why the characters have no expression and look like soulless stuffed animals.

Legend of the Guardians is praised as one of the most impressive CGI movies of all time and was even more praised on how well the characters expressed emotion.

Animal Logic did a great job, The Owls even had subtle movements in the face that smashed the movie past creepy Uncanny Valley into one of the first times CGI has actually looked realistic and believable.

Legends of the Guardians had nice rendering and feather effects, the actual animation, which is the movement of the characters and their expressions was among the worst ever put on screen. The characters have zero expressive capability and the flying looked extremely fake. Many movies have done better flight of birds and more expressive animals. There's really no excuse for failing on something so basic. It shows a complete lack of understanding of the fundamentals of character design and animation.

Every scene in this trailer you can see the emotion on their faces.

Because you are a neckbeard and never have experienced subtle changes in faces to express emotion doesn't mean they don't exist.

It would have looked retarded in LotG if they pulled stupid cartoon expressions, so they put in more subtle and realistic expressions that focused on the eyes.

US films are exported around the world to ensure a return on investment, otherwise the films would not be made.

Europeans often make films to make art, and gov't subsidies allow them to do so.
They are less concerned about reaching every last popcorn eater around the globe. Making money is not absolute necessary.

In France for example, only a handful of films are actually profitable out of hundreds produced.
