The Worst Thing about the show: There's so much material to cover, that many nuances are going to be lost, some of them fairly important. A lot of the rich detail and background of Westeros will never be made clear to viewers.
The Best Thing about the show: Overall, the performances are capturing the essence of the characters and the setting. It makes a really good side-dish when reading the books. (I'm through the second book on a reread of the series so far).
Most notable divergence from the book series: Jaime Lannister's character is getting a lot of face-time early on; he barely appears in the first two books outside of the early scene with Bran and the window and laterin the Tully dungeon.
