It's actually 31 seasons (32nd currently in progress) but I assure you the majority of Whofags on /tv/, barring a select few cool people, have only watched the last 5, or minimum the last 1. The high number of seasons is because it's an old show, it started in 1963.
After season 26 it went on a long, long hiatus, and was revived in 2005 under a new format for new viewers (which is where people tend to start). Then in 2010 since they apparently couldn't get enough they re-jiggled it AGAIN, replaced the entire cast, writers, directors, and producers, and closed off nearly all previous plot threads to start afresh.
