3 years ago, my interest in /u/ related material began to grow. Finding a new board and a new hope for more, I joined the /u/ community and lurked from that day on about 2 years on this board. Last year I decided to contribute pictures to our community aswell, so my existance here has some kind of value.

But after these three years I realized something. The love between girls is the most interesting and most valuable kind of love. It isn't affected with stereotypes and prejudice. But I, as a male, feel sorry for my own being. I wanted to belong to the opposite sex so much that now, after years of thinking, I decided to make a gender change (sorry, I don't know the exact word for it I'm not a native English speaker). So is this idea the right choice? I always wanted to be a woman, but my outside appearence is that of a casual, (manly) man

I'm sorry for this blog-like thread, but you are the only people I can truly talk about this topic. /soc/ is not able to give an serious answer.

sexuality=/=gender. If you want to get a sex change because you think you can love a woman better as a woman, then it's a bad plan. You can find the kind of relationship you want no matter what your gender, or the gender of those you love. Having a penis does not mean you need to act like a stereotypical man. If you want a sweet, pure love like you describe, go for it. You'll find someone who is right there with you.

HOWEVER, if you are motivated for gender based reasons, meaning that you feel like a woman at all times and want others to see and respect this part of you, more power to you. Go forth, transition, and enjoy. Also, let it be known that you do not have to have a vagina to be a woman. If a physical transition is what you want, hormones, surgeries and all (or just parts of that equation) that's awesome. But if you feel like a woman, then all you have to do is identify as a woman and - congratulations! - you ARE a woman. Welcome to the transgender community. ^_^

Though it is true that by becoming a women, and therefore being treated differentially by society (regardless of whether or not it stems from sexism), it allows one to relate better with other women. But that's not exclusively for romance, nor does it mean romance can't be equally satisfying without sharing such experience firsthand.

Basically it's like wondering if being of the same ethnicity as your romantic interest will add significance to the relationship.

Let me add my two cents here and say that real lesbian relationships are not like idealized yuri relationships, anymore than heterosexual relationships resemble anime/manga ones.
Real life relationships are more mundane with mundane looking 3D people. Real people aren't as moe in looks or personality. The pool of available lesbians is very small and within that pool, some will not accept a transgendered partner. Relationships are rarely like the romantic, straight-forward ones you see with yuri. Break-ups are common. Drama is usually on small, petty things that make relationships hard, not big dramatic things that sound interesting in a yuri story.
So if you're using yuri as your model for what you want to achieve, changing into a woman in real life isn't going to get you there. I'm sorry but yuri is mostly fantasy. It's something we like because it's a nice escape from the boring realities of life.

You should do some research on gender identity disorder (gender dysphoria). Then do a lot of introspective comparison to yourself, the criteria, and the stories of other people who have gone through it. If you still want to go through with this, make an appointment with a psychologist.

But don't be stupid and get a sex change because you want to be a lesbian. Only do this if you feel like you need to be a woman.

If you really want it, you won't do it because you want love, because you might not find it. It's a sad fact that some people are just lucky (I'm much closer in body shape to my ideal gender), and some people just aren't. And you definitely can't do it out of some hatred for your "birth" gender.

You'll do it because you have to. Because no matter what you do, you can't escape it. Because it tears you apart day and night, and aches in your bones when people identify you as that something else. And don't believe everything that you read, there are plenty of people who transition after puberty and still have amazing results- granted, they're not as good as prepubescent transitioning, but sometimes people aren't ready/able at that time. This is really a process of getting to know yourself, and why you really feel this way. I wish you the best of luck no matter what you do, OP.

OP, I would listen to trans-anon (transfag is more in line with naming conventions, but it seems so wrong). I'm going to throw a shot in the dark and say she knows what she is talking about when she says do it because "it tears you apart day and night". It needs to be a decision that drives your very soul. If you do decide to do it, I believe that there is a regulation in the US that you have to live as that gender for a full year prior to going for re-assignment surgery. I don't pretend to know what country you are from, but that sounds like an excellent dry run (if you will) to me, even if its not required.

As for what everyone else says about love and acceptance, etc. it mostly rings true to my ears. All the lesbians I know (I seem to know a lot. Some of them are related) are pretty much like everyone else, and you won't discover anything magical by changing genders.

So do it because not doing it is killing you on the inside, not because yuri is so seductive.

the problem with OP's plan is:
1) there is only a depressingly small fraction of trans-women who can socially pass as women
2) from what I gather during my time in /u/, it seems that lesbians absolutely hates trans-women. something about "lack of feminine essence" or somesuch.

don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you're "not a beautiful person", but a lot of times people are not that accepting.
