Japanese Pokémon Crystal - Opinion and/or discussion thread

No.9876787 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
What does /vp/ think of the Japanese Crystal? To me, it was the epithome of classic (i.e., pre-Generation III games). Beyond what Generation II contributed to the series and with the welcome additions in Crystal, here's what the original Japanese release of Crystal has to offer exclusively:

>Pokémon Center in Goldenrod City replaced by a much larger facility, called the Pokémon Communication Center (or simply PokéCom Center, though this name comes from unused text in the English Crystal);
>this facility required the Mobile Adapter GB to take use of its exclusive functionality, such as the News Machine, mobile trades/battles, events (such as the GS Ball event), etc.
>take it as the prototype of both modern GTS and Global Terminal
>Mobile Stadium mode, which could be used when linked to a Japanese Pokémon Stadium 2 game.
>in this mode, you could also record battles (like the Vs. Recorder would later allow since Platinum)
>the Battle Tower requires the Mobile Adapter GB in order to work due to it being focused on linking with friends via mobile phone
>no, not even getting all 16 badges and defeating the Elite Four, Champion and Red grants access to it
>the Day Care man gives an Egg Ticket to exchange for an Odd Egg in the PokéCom Center and it has 50% chance of the hatched Pokémon being shiny vs. the 12.5% of the localizations
