Alright dubyagee,
Here's my plan:
I'm going to take each entry from the list of common misconceptions on wikipedia (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_misconception ) and turn them into wallpapers much like this one. However, there are a lot of them, so i'd like to gauge interest before i put hours (more likely days) of work into this.
Is this something you would be interested in?
-perhaps using them with a wallpaper switcher (like the one built into '7).
Can you offer any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism of the project while it is in it's early stages?

i like them but they need to be in a variety of different resolutions.
Synergy !/YIYGhOSTk
I think 1900 x 1200 would be a good resolution to make them, since they can be easily sized down without losing much of the quality, instead of the other way around
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>4210614 >>4210608 I believe both of these are great ideas, though personally, the resolution he provided would work best for myself without much quality loss.
So, OP, what do you say about providing larger sizes? If nothing else, anonymous can size them down from the resolution you provide with relative ease to whatever they please.

other things that im noticing now is that the centering is not quite right on all of them and the spacing in the first wall is different from the subsequent walls...
Anonymous
Oh, how I do wish that you could have these 1080, not 1200. However. I will take what I can get. These look great so far, I would love to see more.
Anonymous
>>4210659 Samefag here.Yeah, I take that back. 1920X1200 is the best size to make your walls. Also, try to shy away from too much text. In my opinion, these would look better as minimalist walls with a few short lines of text.
And if you don't mind, I'd love to get my hands on that font you're using.

>>4212327 >>4211717 where would you like to see variations in color? I was thinking of keeping the same color scheme except changing only the parts that are currently red to other colors based on subject. the walls that are currently posted are hsitory related, so the subjects are red. perhaps Legislation and crime could be blue, Food and cooking could be green?
Overall, id like to remain stylistically the same so that they can be used interchangeably and keep the same general layout and feel.
Thoughts?

I think this is a terrific idea, OP, however, in agreement with most of the anons here, I think a style variation might be more interesting. Maybe if it's not too difficult, you could tailor the design to better match each individual misconception; it might flow better as a wallpaper.

alright, taking from this thread my current style guide looks like this: Fonts: Cordia UPC size 67 first line and 48 on subsequent lines Carribean Tool size 58 Resolution: 1900 x 1200 Stylistic Features: The main subject of the wallpaper will feature the carribean tool size 58 font in red color X subsequent mentions of that subject will be in cordia UPC size 48 in color X cordia UPC text on the same line as carribean tool text will be size 67 all other text will be cynthe size 48 X is 830000 for history, a shade of blue for law, green for cooking, and etc. Notes: Omit extraneous text to keep amount of text to a minimum save layered version (.xcf) of all files as well as postable (.jpg) version. At the end, condense all files into a zip archive Which yields a wallpaper looking something like this...

This was the best one on that page The word "fuck" did not originate in Christianized Anglo-Saxon England as an acronym for "Fornication Under Consent of King"; nor did it originate as an acronym for "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge", either as a sign posted above adulterers in the stocks, or as a criminal charge against members of the British Armed Forces; nor did it originate during the 15th-century Battle of Agincourt as a corruption of "pluck yew" (an idiom falsely attributed to the English for drawing a longbow). Modern English was not spoken until the 16th century, and words such as "fornication" and "consent" did not exist in any form in English until the influence of Anglo-Norman in the late 12th century. The earliest recorded use of "fuck" in English comes from c. 1475, in the poem "Flen flyys", where it is spelled fuccant (conjugated as if a Latin verb meaning "they fuck"). It is of Proto-Germanic origin, and is related to Dutch fokken and Norwegian fukka.

In the 1930s a German scientist, using flawed techniques, indeed postulated that bumblebees theoretically should not be able to fly,[116] although he later retracted the suggestion. or this one >Glass is not a high-viscosity liquid at room temperature: it is an amorphous solid, although it does have some chemical properties normally associated with liquids. Panes of stained glass windows often have thicker glass at the bottom than at the top, and this has been cited as an example of the slow flow of glass over centuries. However, this unevenness is due to the window manufacturing processes used in earlier eras, which produced glass panes that were unevenly thick at the time of their installation. Normally the thick end of glass would be installed at the bottom of the frame, but it is also common to find old windows where the thicker end has been installed to the sides or the top. In fact, the lead frames of the windows are less viscous than the panes, and if glass was indeed a slow moving liquid, the panes would warp at a higher degree Until now I believed that glass was a slow flowing liquid... I'm an idiot

>Contrary to a widespread perception, the real number 0.999...—where the decimal point is followed by an infinite sequence of nines—is exactly equal to 1.[238] They are two different ways of writing the same real number.[239] A 2009 study by Weller et al.[240] states that "Tall and Schwarzenberger (1978) asked first year university mathematics students whether 0.999... is equal to 1. The majority of the students thought that 0.999... is less than 1." Weller et al. go on to describe their own controlled experiment, performed "during the 2005 fall semester at a major research university in the southern United States. Pre-service elementary and middle school teachers from all five sections of a sophomore-level mathematics content course on number and operation participated in the study." The results are striking: "On the question of whether .999...=1, 72% of the control group and 83% of the experimental group expressed their view that .999... is not equal to 1." Anonymous

The text is all CordiaUPC, but it's more thick: it seems different from your text. I couldn't find a thinner 'Cordia UPC', and this one was already on my system. It may cause the antialiasing problem...
As for the title: it is too long to fit on one line. I think Let them eat cake is more important than Marie Antoinette?
I also found that the image is more peaceful with a more horizontal look of the text. That needed some experiment.
