Oh no, it's moonspeak-sensei tiem. Here we go, brace yourselves...
>>568651It is still ambiguous. Apparently OP has been depending on shitty subs (sry Aero subs) without actually translating the Japanese. In episode 31, just like everyone else in Soul Eater Marie-sensei refers to Crona with sexually ambiguous terms. To be specific, she says things like, 「この子」 or 「いい子」 which mean "that kid" and "good kid" respectively. Aero-subs got lazy and translated 「この子」 to "she" which isn't quite right. To go an entire series without once revealing Crona's gender may seem mind-boggling to English-speakers but in the Japanese language it's quite possible. Gender specific pronouns such as he 「彼」 and she 「彼女」 are rarely used in Japanese writing or speech because gender-specific pronouns were somewhat recently introduced into the Japanese language to aid in the translation of Western texts which frequently use such pronouns. That's why Crona remains completely ambiguous. I've heard rumors that the mangaka has no idea whether Crona is a boy or a girl. If you want my opinion it looks like Crona started life in the series as a boy ("i don't know how to talk to girls") and became more like a girl as the series progressed (the outfit Crona wore as a little kid was pretty freakin girly).
Moonspeak seminar over and done. I apologize for my lack of contribution. All I have is epic repost.
