Christmas Eve, and it's time for your gift, /co/. Nintendo Power was a part of my childhood, and as many of you know, it ceases publication this month with Issue #285. So I'm going to dump every Nester comic (except one). Join me, won't you?

Any chance you can zip these up and put them up somewhere for DL OP?

Tom Preston joke here Trivia: General Pepper's lollipop is an ongoing gag from the StarFox comic that was running cocurrently to this. Hooray consistency!

Of course not! Ignoring the Virtual Boy title "Nester's Funky Bowling", in Issue 100, Nester returned. Nester's been aging in real time, it seems, and is in college now.

And in Issue 231, the 20th Anniversary, Ryan "Fishlips" Kinnaird illustrated this two pager.

Cute, the way it plays up Nester as the dopey dad who won't let go of the past. But... that's a bit too Preston for my taste.

So with Issue 285, the final Nintendo Power issue, they closed the magazine on this: a two page "Nester and Maxwell" comic.

>>44319249 No, if it was Preston then Nester would be a smug prick who goes on about how superior things were when he was a kid and then his son acts like a retard and proves him right.

Despite my trip, I didn't subscribe to Nintendo Power much, if at all. The only time I can remember was when I wanted to get the Zelda Collector's Disc for Gamecube, which had the requirement of getting a subscription. But Nintendo Power, it was always -there- when I was a kid. I had friends with subscriptions. I saw back issues at my local library. I flipped through the catalogs, I listened to Smashing Live. Strategy guides at Blockbuster, going to then new concept of a website at
Nintendo.com ....
But Nintendo Power, in all its shilling, campy, corny glory was a constant. With something like that, you sort of take for granted that fact. It's always there, so you don't appreciate it that much. It's not until something is gone that you really get hit with how much it meant to you.
Nintendo Power had a great run. 285 issues, 25 years, that's a long time. That's older than most posters on this board!

Goodbye, Nintendo Power. You had a great run.

ZIP FILE TIME
Included in this zip is every image I posted in this thread, right down to my mixxed up numbering system. Also included, as a freebie, is Tom Preston's horrible fanart wherein he has Nester reunite with Howard to complain about them modern games and Link's hair no longer being brown.
http://www.mediafire.com/?61mdtvtneerd7dy As an added christmas bonus, and unrelated entirely to Nintendo Power, I include the zip file to a previous story time I did: The Shogun Warriors Coloring Book, starring Dragun!

>>44316923 >>44317049 During it's early years, Nintendo Power was assisted by Tokuma Shoten, As a result the mag's design was somewhat influenced by Japanese gaming mags of the time. Lots of visual noise and neat illustrations littered about.
As for the artist It MIGHT be Benimaru Itoh, who worked on the Star Fox comic, the styles are very similar.
