Keep in mind that choosing any ICC profile in the color management settings /won't/ result in an immediate visible change (on Windows, that is) because the majority of programs are not color managed in the first place.
It will only make a difference in Firefox (after a restart), Photoshop, Windows Photo Gallery and other color managed applications.
HOWEVER, if your ICC profile includes calibration data (they usually don't unless you create them using something like argyllCMS), Windows will load these and you *will* notice an immediate change (if the change is significant, for example a different white point).
On OS X, it should result in an immediately visible change.
