This doesn't really contribute to the thread but I need to ask you guys for some help with my wizard.
The DM said we're all going to start at level 2, and I've never been anything other than a Fighter or Barbarian (honestly I'm still pretty new to D&D).
Anyway, I told him that I wanted to be a wizard and he set about telling me a bunch of good prestige classes I should work towards and everything in between. I think its min-maxing and I want no part of it.
I told him flat out that I wanted to be a Merlin kind of wizard, with the pointy purple hat and a purple robe with shiny stars on it. He gave me a funny look, but I kept going.
My name would be Mephisto the Magnificent, even though my character's name would really be Steven. He would refer to himself in the third person and would always sound hammy.
I then yelled in character somewhere along the lines of "MEPHISTO THE MAGNIFICENT HAS HAD IT WITH ALL THESE TRIFLIN' WENCHES!"
I then told him some more backstory about Steven, our characters are all orphans that are sent to a boarding school-esque place to train them for Adventurers to help make the current state of the world a bit more orderly for the crumbling government. I proposed that Steven was trained by a downtrodden wizard on the street (a homeless guy more or less) and was gifted my robe and wizard hat, as well as a certificate for my "Wizardly Powers of Awesomeness." I then told him that because of his emotional attachment to his said robe and wizard hat he won't swap them out for better equipment.
The DM kind of laughed and said that it wasn't a good idea, but I really want to roleplay a wizard that, despite being hammy, is still pretty damn serious. Its just that his character is a bit goofy and I think because he's afraid I might derail it with being goofy and stubborn about my equipment and stats he might try to kill me and make me reroll.
Any suggestions on what to do besides make a similar character if I died?
