If its a big sandbox style deal from the start, I have to assume you're more likely to have shenanigans like you're talking than if you start, say, on the other side of a Pandora Gate (or about to enter one), or on one of the stations/worlds that really requires teamwork just to survive for any length of time.
The more you give players something to focus on... the more theyre likely to ignore it and do what they want. Thankfully, EP has so much shit going on, there's rarely any danger of the GM not having something available to toy around with to get the party's attention.
