It was cool. I met an online friend of mine at a convention. He was pretty much the same IRL as he was online. We still called each other by our online names, since it seemed the most normal to us, and would have felt weird to start calling each other by our first names just because it was real life. But it was fun. It's especially cool if it's someone you've talked to online for a long time.

Met tons of online friends. They quickly became true bros. Kind of funny but due to the nature of internet relationships, I'm usually more inclined to confide on internet people than on my friends on sensitive stuff. After I met all those internet bros and broettes, though, since I had already told them pretty much fucking everything, it gave birth to a much more, let's say, open relationship than with my other friends. I have no regrets.

None of us have played Runescape for years now but we meet up several times a year.. i'm going up to Wales in a couple of weeks to see a few of them and we have an annual big meetup over halloween weekend where we all go on holiday together somewhere; this year it's centreparcs and paintballing. I really miss the days we spent on Runescape sometimes.. spending retarded amounts of time in IRC and derping about pking or killing bosses together, but i'm glad we're mostly all still close friends years later. A couple of them met in that IRC channel and have been dating for 4+ years now, and a couple of the younger guys started uni a year or so ago and ended up getting a house together.

Needless to say it didn't work, distance was far too much of an issue.
As for in-game relationships that people mean to stay in the game and never think beyond that... I have no fucking clue how that works. Sounds silly to me for sure.
An internet relationship can only work if the idea is to move to an IRL thing as fast as possible, and both actively work towards this goal, provided it's feasible (career aspirations, for example, can fuck this up majorly).
Even then I would thread with extreme care, and would meet IRL in frequent visits as soon as possible to assert you both really like each other.
But my first and foremost advice regarding net relationships would be OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?

Ended up landing a relationship with one of our old clanmates from an old MMO. Said clan mate just disappeared off the face of the internet one day.
It just doesn't seem genuine. They didn't even talk outside of clan chat except the rare occasion when the clan Skyped together, and even then the clanmate is hardly ever responsive in chat anyhow.

I met two people that I eventually met IRL. Both in WoW, both guildies. The first was a guy in London. He was a blast to hang out with and we'd play everything together over vent. We'd shit ourselves laughing for hours on end over and over again. I eventually went to London for ten days because I wanted to visit another country and he was the only acquaintance I had. We went and saw most of the stuff worth seeing, went out drinking, it was great. We sort of fell out of touch once I stopped playing WoW. The second was a girl (no, wait for it) that was simply infatuated with me. She was utterly crazy about me and I'm not exaggerating one bit. I'm not going to go into details, but it was clear she really enjoyed my presence. We met once and went out drinking at her request and had a great time. Then a few weeks later her parents left for vacation and right after they left she asks me over vent if my folks would be angry if I were to leave home so early. Long story short I ended up spending the weekend at her place, drinking, playing WoW, laughing at stupid shit and eventually kissing, fucking and took a bath together. It was great. And contrary to what you'd think, she looked great. Not amazingly hot, but she was thin, had boobs. Who cares, I got laid.Later on I found out that she does that kind of thing with a lot of guys. She just finds someone she falls completely in love with and then a month later her interest fades. Kind of sucked once I realized it, but who cares, I got laid. We still talked every now and then but I stopped caring about her once I got an actual girlfriend.

I told him that his girlfriend was a good catch and he should put a ring on her. You know, normalfag shit. What did strike him is that in game he's the hapless type that's always bitching about some mundane setback, going "aww man" and shit. In real life, he's mostly got hi shit together, apart from being a little indecisive. His girlfriend is that female gamer that you absolutely DID NOT WANT in your Karazhan group, and you wouldn't consider even taking her anywhere else. BC was the last time we played together, so I'm using old examples. Anyway, she's always be lowest on the healing meters and would back into pulls and didn't ever talk on vent and shit. In real life, she was pretty chill and very hot.

This isnt my story, but back when I was in Japan, I talked to some guy who played FFXI; just want to share it with you because of manly tears. I have a few girls on my friend's list and honestly, I want to love all of them. Why am I this desperate? I think I've actually just screwed everything up with 2 of them, though. The rest I don't talk to a lot. I feel really bad about myself, I have no idea why I'm doing this. I also told one this already. I told her how I feel about her and other girls and I know it was a mistake. I'm really not sure how to feel right now, but I just want someone I can cuddle with.
