Crafting is the safest thing you can do from in or close to town. Making bandages would be the absolute most helpful, easiest, and safest thing to do. It's boring as fuck and can be automated. The house in the picture is roughly the same size. You'll be fine if you make a melee, bard, or crafter and go out adventuring. We have a smith or two who can get you all geared up whenever they're around. You will die often, you will die ridiculously, and you will be griefed if you play UO.

You won't be god of the field but you'll always have something to do. Basically what that template is missing is Magery and Resisting Spells. Magery is VERY useful for everyone trying to get around. Resisting Spells helps against mages. If you don't have it, just about any mage (note how important magery is, everyones a mage) will stomp all over you. You will, however, do just fine in PvM when you're in a group with bros.

Right now the best way for you to contribute is to learn the mechanics of the game, honestly.

Once you've learned the movement and action buttons, like opening your paperdoll, minimap or backpack you will be alright.

It's not dead but it's not exactly super filled either. I run into players everywhere I go. Our guys have been getting PKed and making friends since they got here. I'd say 300-500 unique IPs online at any time.

If you try stealing where an npc is present then you'll automatically get guard whacked. I steal away from NPCs west of brittania, but it's still in the city zone so you can still get guardwhacked if the other guy spots you/is paying attention.

I think I've just gotten lucky and have gotten some pretty good steals off where I don't even turn grey to the other guy. Doing Hide+Stealth up to him+hide->steal works great too but you need to macro hide up to 80 before you can stealth.

Yeah. The guards range is 9 or 12 tiles from an NPC. You can get away with stealing within that range but if you flag grey, the NPC calls guards. I'm just having trouble getting guys without getting ganked for permagrey.

At a certain point in the game's history, No-PK zones were added and the game lost it's original flavor and intent. The beauty of the game for many people was the ability to do anything and actually affect other players. When Trammel (No-PvP copy of the world that exists alongside the PvP area) came in, it felt restrictive. Most anything before trammel is good. Trammel is kind of like aimassit, it just removes all the fun. Most servers that don't go a "pureist" route are filled with BRBRBRBRBR and kids, not to mention tons of ugly neon stuff and other silly clothes that no one cares about. Really if you want good ol fashioned fun going to the purist route is the only way. I have been private servers for about 6 years now so I have seen it all really.

You would get magery to get around easily and quickly. Resist is just to help against mages who will attack you when you go outside of town. Most pure crafters would not take it. If you don't have it, you will not stand even a chance should you get attacked by a mage PK. It's totally acceptable to not have either. I'm a big fan of playing however the fuck you want.

I don't have the exact count but there are generally 4-5 around at any given time. I think we're over 15 joined up but I can't confirm that. I'll check how many are guilded in a moment. We're still in the process of recruiting and ragequits. This is day 3 or 4 for us.

Skill gain was slow as shit though. Probably slower than on OSI even, especially since you could 7x7 on official servers.

I played this back before they had moonstones, then moongates, then BODs and repair deeds.
Repair deeds RUINED this game for me as a blacksmith. Nobody wanted the social interaction anymore...
