Problem #2: People who post bannable non-vidya like that feel when no gf are not contributing anything to the board, and are a waste of space, not "smart, funny people."
Problem #3: Yes, a thread on /v/ is a fart in a hurricane, but most of us are only on for a couple hours a day, meaning that the shitty thread of the hour is up 100% of the time that we are on that day.

Also, hiding things sometimes doesn't completely block you from them: I've been in threads where a tripfag that I had previously blocked derailed the entire thing, and I was sitting there wondering what the fuck happened until I turned off the filter.
tl;dr, shit is shit, and we shouldn't have to look at it at all.
Though I suppose that moot's policy of self moderation works, "just ignore things you don't like." However many other people refuse to ignore it, which is part of the reason that /v/ is in it's current state.
