Change the overall level/world design to make it a generally shorter game. It doesn't have to be linear but the overall size and scope needs to be reduced if you and your buddies EVER plan to get ANYWHERE within a SINGLE FUCKING DAY.
Alternatively, design every area like it was Phantasy Star Online. Just a straight, corridor style linear romp with multiple exits leading to different parts of the world. Plus, areas you've completed can be teleported to for next time. Remember that this is a handheld, and worse a Vita, so don't expect this to be any fun if you spend your entire battery's life simply walking to your destination. Also, make the cities menu driven instead of exploration based or else you'll, again, spend your whole battery on talking to people before you could even start that side quest you finally found.
If it were like this, I would heavily consider buying a Vita on launch.
