Feel like getting into a JRPG. Couple of things I'm looking for

-Emphasis on story
-Turned based combat
-Large, interesting world
-Not a Final Fantasy

Doesn't matter what system it's on or what era it's from (Just not 360 or Wii as I can't emulate those)

Persona 4, it's a game that a lot of people know about. It has a large emphasis on story over combat, it has turn based combat.

It's for the playstation 2 but I will warn you, there are some "adult" parts you probably wouldn't want to play in front of other people, but I guess that is a given with JRPG's.

It's fun, it's relate-able. It's a good game and you should play it.

Despite many people hating Atlus games, specially Persona 3/4, I recommend it too. It's fun.

If you liked Golden Sun play Lufia II for the SNES

Great heartfelt story, turn based, large overworld, and the puzzles are actually better then the ones in Golden Sun, and the only downside is no customizable class system

It's a bit heavy on dialogue but it's an excellent game all around. You can hold the B button to fast forward through battles. Once you're done with it, play its sequel, The Lost Age. Don't bother with Dark Dawn on DS. It pales in comparison to the original.

Not OP, but I have a similar question. I'm pretty much just curious if you have any games that are exactly like OP wanted, but minus the turned based combat.

Hate that shit. Ironically I loved Fallout 1 and 2 and Persona, but that's it. I can't honestly enjoy any other turn based game

The Ancient Cave from II was a fun sidequest and timesink, but it didn't need to be expanded to basically be the entire game.

The series was going in an incredible direction with the 2nd game, focusing on clever dungeon design and puzzles, and then they threw it away for procedural generated content.

Final Fantasy V has enough story, or at least it has all of those other elements in abundance. I'm happy to substitute VI if you like.

My point is (if I'm right about OP) half of the time people dismiss the entire Final Fantasy series out of hand because they're too young to remember a time when it was actually good, and had flare and character.
