FPS game:

At the end of each mission, you see cutscenes of the enemy carrying the dead bodies of their friends. Taking their dog tags an watching the not-yet-dead ones cry about their legs. And then you have to write a letter as his friend telling his wife that he died. You have to do this for every person you kill.

Get a game like Demon's/Dark Souls, make a boss who gets more powerful the more pots/barrels/boxes you smash.

No warp points or cutscene shortcuts, if you clear a level you have to wander back to the start, and all enemies you killed are now much tougher zombie versions. Even if they were zombies to begin with.

Bring the maintenance mechanic from System Shock 2 into every FPS. Complete with random jamming. Triple the rate of decay if pirated.

Fighting game where there is random button delay to moves actually going off, and differences in priority, based solely on which color palette you go with.

Every game ends to a scene of Kojima waking up, commenting on how weird that dream was, then asking the mirror "Did you like it'?

Put the most powerful boss in the game, who always starts the battle by using an 8000 damage attack when you have ~3500 HP if you've been grinding a lot and always hits unless you can block it somehow, in a treasure chest in the final dungeon, near the end of the final dungeon, when the last save point was about 30-45 minutes and about 3 bosses (one of which being one of the harder fights in the game) back.

You have to gide a weak scared NPC across a field to her home. And all the enemies want to kill her for some reason. So you are busting your ass protecting her as she walks real slow. Then when you get to the end, there's a cutscene where she thanks you, an enemy is sneaking up behind you, and she says "watch out!" then takes out her hidden knife and slices the enemy in half.

Enemies you encounter have access to the same item stockpile that the player does.

If you're the kind of player that saves ultra-healing/reviving items and powerful attack/buff items you'll have a much harder time with every encounter.

You are a parasite controlling the main character and he/she gets weaker in some way for every minute of play time (counting towns and menus). You have to constantly switch the character you control or he/she will become useless in battle. Also your party members only get 1/8th of the experience as the infected one.

A final Boss fight where it's impossible to actually beat the boss unless you have the controller plugged into the second slot.

The game will read if you have the controller in the first slot or not, and if you do, will unleash an unavoidable attack that will always kill you.

Every item can be destroyed by stuff like you smashing a crate full of water melons instead of slowly opening the crate or throwing an item that is easily breakable. This also includes important items like keys and other story related shit. You do not get a message if you destroy a required item. Your items can break while they are stored in your backpack either by an enemy kicking it or the items can damage each other if you are jumping around wildly.

make the "action" button the same as the attack button, and you can attack any NPCs if the "talk" icon doesn't appear.

A nice girl joins your party, and at the end of the game she gives you a note telling you to meet her somewhere. Its clear she's going to confess her love to you. When you press the action button you ATTACK her and she is lying on the floor asking "why...?" while you are shocked.

Adds a whole new element of picking your fights and having to run.
Also make them hunters and trackers after you as you continue your mission for the end boss.

Would make war games more realistic too if you could sway the storyline with certain battles and firefights being massacres or failures.

There is a hot springs in the game and if you go there you are always taken to the boy side. BUT a cutscene shows that there's a girl side AND they show nipples to prove the game will show naked women.
So there is a way to get to the girls side secretly, it looks like a glitch but is actually intened, you have to "clip though" a wall and the player probably thinks he's slick but you will get caught and your character name changed to PERVERT forever. Even if you make a new game, it will still be PERVERT.

Your party is in captivity by the enemy.
You get a mook disguise at one point, you talk to enemies and they assume you're someone else. You need to roll with it to not blow your cover (these guys can one shot you). So you go with them to kill your own party members. There is no way to break your disguise but you can shoot the enemy soldiers. They will shoot back and its a game over.

The way to advance is to kill your party members, you must do it.

the antipiracy actually checks a specific byte which is set only if you're playing the game on a cartridge copier on an actual console, if i recall correctly.
you'll be able to emulate it just fine. but the antipiracy code is in there. you can enable it with a game genie code (which sets that byte).

Earthbound is famous for that, but otherwise most roms don't have this sort of protection. If they do, just google cheats to bypass the byte protection, as someone else mentioned earlier. Very easy to resolve, even the DQ games on DS.

There's a room you can only enter once. Once you leave it, it locks for the rest of the game.

Inside is a fuckton of incredible weapons and gold bars (worth large amounts of money). However, everything in the room is incredibly heavy, so you can only carry a few bars/weapons out.

I know it would drive me crazy.

However, the final boss/bosses simply cannot be reached before a specific amount of time that is never explained is reached. Getting to the final area beforehand results in an impossibly tricky and cheap series of fights and such, and if you die your save data is erased as well.

at the end of the game, after you 'beat' it, the game starts to reverse and you have to play the entire game backwards, using backwards controls and all the sounds (music, dialog, FX) are reversed. There is achievement for doing this. DEAL WITH IT.

In the game there is a point where you are tasked to collect 3 special items. For each you have to play a set of levels. You get to choose which one you want to play first.

However, in one of the sets you get captured and lose all your unused items and equipment.

This only happens in the second level of that level set so you won't know if you just try them all out quickly before deciding.

There is equipment that is only avaible once in the other 2 level sets so if you decide to play this as second or third level set you will lose certain items and be unable to find them for the rest of the game.

This is actually in a game already. I wonder if anyone knows which one used this.

A time travel game full of paradoxes and general fucked upness. You constantly have to go back and interact with yourself (basically an NPC who is just a recording of what you were doing before you went back in time) and use yourself to solve puzzles and shit. As you gain more power, you can interact with yourself more and more, and have more iterations helping you solve puzzles. Later on you could even develop control over space as well as time, and add portals to allow for some deeply mindfucking puzzles.

The game would be full of closed loop paradoxes such as solving a puzzle that releases you from a box, only to later be trapped in that box and be released by yourself.

The catch is, is that every time you die you create a "dimensional splinter" or "threads" that don't affect linear game-play, but after you defeat what you THINK is the final boss, the goal of the game shifts from defeating the antagonist to dimensional hopping and fixing all of your fucked up realities you created. This could be achieved by either stopping yourself from dying, or picking up where you left of after you died to complete the mission.

Only after fixing all of your dimensional fragments can you face the REAL final boss. yourself and after defeating yourself you are finally able to stop the closed loop paradox from going on and on forever and free the universe from it's shackles of mobius time.

When the player enters the can not back out for whatever reason (hordes of enemies outside, door slammed, dropped down a hole, etc.). Have a long corridor with a save point at the beginning with equipment, healing, etc. Make it look like this is the final approach to the big bad. 3/4 of the way to the boss a cutscene occurs and the player is killed.

In order to defeat him you need to do something non-combat related outside of his sphere of influence, such as incite the population to rebel, destroy his public image, or maybe just poison his food. In any case directly challenging him is a game-over.

Each hour of gameplay ages your character by one year. Start out at age 16. Watch your character change as you age. 20+ hours in, your powers start to weaken, you don't heal as fast, can't wield the heaviest weapons anymore.

During the entire game you have to escort a female through it, she's utterly useless and she gets one shotted from every enemy or attack, you have to restart your last save every time she dies, there are boss battles as well.

At the end of the game after defeating the final boss and keeping her ass alive a cutscene shows (if you skip it your save game is erased) her and she stabs you in the spine with a knife and takes the boss crystal explaining she was using you the entire time, it shows her walking away and you're laying there paralyzed from the waist down and the credits roll.

the game runs a check for piracy and tells you that you must be connected to the internet and constantly being validated in order for it to work
but when it actually does the check, it checks whether you bought the game or not
if you bought the game, it immediately uninstalls itself and deletes all related files including system integral files like directx
and if you pirated the game, it lets you play as normal

If your character dies, you can go back and time and revive him by changing the system clock to before when he died. It's the only way to revive him. If you change it to a time in the future (Like, to the normal time after setting it back), you just get the game over screen.

a MMORPG that is simulated. The final boss is really easy to beat, but he sets up a bomb that you have to defuse. To do this, you have to enter a code you got earlier in the game.

When you hit pause or enter a menu, the game will go on uninterrupted. You have no time to search for a note or go on gamefaqs. If you did not memorize the code or have it right next to you, you will die and will be set back approximately one hour of gameplay. The code changes every time you die this way, and if you don't go to where you learn about it again, you will die again. The final boss gets more health and does more damage every time, too.

Game starts out as FPS with REALISTIC graphics. Game slowly, but noticeably starts to "degrade" gameplay-wise and graphics wise. Example, your gun stops firing completely straight and jams more often and you'll even drop it every now and then. It transitions to a Ratchet and Clank clone to a 3D beat-em-up to a 2D sidescroller and everything in between, graphics going down from realistic to 8-bit. But the gameplay is still wonky. Jumps don't work right, score doesn't add up, weapons act weird. The final boss is Pong and the only way to beat the game is lose. You can get the highest score imaginable, but it'll reset itself until you lose. When you finally lose, the game turns off and replaces your save with a picture that says "YOU ARE FREE". The player is supposed to realize that this game was un-teaching him all the mechanics common in video games by going against his "gamer instinct" the entire time.

This one is real. I forgot the game title though.

Basically it went like this.

The game had a nice story which flowed through the game, it got you hooked and it got you wanting more, unfortunetly before they could finish the final dungeon they ran out of time and had to rush the release, so instead they made the second to last dungeon so impossibly difficult that nobody would ever finish it and by doing so figure out that the final dungeon was actually missing from the game.

It's actually a cooking sim where you play as 3 dainty housewives dealing with their own petty, day-to-day issues. All of the realistic military gameplay used in commercials and promotions is taken from a 30 second flashback cutscene of one of the wives husbands second tour of Afghanistan. At this point in the game, the husband would serve as a boss battle, furiously beating the wife if you don't do well cooking the dinner.

The especially enjoyable part would be the trolls calling it a Call of Duty clone upon the initial announcement.
