For a game so focused on combat, Totori has the most boring combat system I have ever seen. It has made almost every person I know that bought the game drop it before finishing. There is no excuse for the combat being that bad when it is the major focus of the game.
Don't say shit about the other main Atelier titles because they did not focus on adventuring nearly as much. Iris and Mana Khemia did the combat much much better, so there is no real excuse for the sudden lapse.
Oddly enough, the other game series that has this problem is
TES and guess what, Skyrim pulled the same shit with duel wielding being the only improvement. Power Attacks are clumsy as fuck and mostly worthless.
Fuck even Fate // EXTRA's combat system is more fun than either of these and it is rock , paper, scissors and meteor.

If you were saying JRPG = FF, then gtfo. Dungeon crawlers have more differences than SRPGs do, and you don't see people whining how they all get lumped together.
