Another game pretty bad at this is Faxanadu, since you have to do pretty precise, outlandish shit there too. Some of the gates in The Guardian Legend also have pants on head retarded requirements to open. But USUALLY you have pretty precise clues, like 'wait forever'. And then you come across the one that is like 'LOLNOWAYTOOPENIT'.
Personally tho, I got stuck for months in Zelda 1 because of that goriya in Stage 7 going 'grumble, grumble'. Consider that I'm not a native english speaker, so I had only a vague idea of what grumble could mean, and that the bait was supposedly 'to lure monsters to it', according to the manual.
